Why see an orthodontist?
We all know how important it is to visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings - but when it comes to the alignment of your teeth and jaws, it’s a Specialist Orthodontist who can provide the expert care you need. Whether you’re noticing crowding, bite issues, or just want to explore treatment options for a straighter smile, understanding when and why to see an orthodontist is the first step towards long-term oral health and confidence.
What is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a trained dentist who has embarked on further postgraduate study to specialise in the field of orthodontics. In Australia, a Specialist Orthodontist must have the following credentials in place:

- Practiced as a dentist for a minimum of two years
- Completed an additional three-year, full-time specialisation degree in orthodontics
- Be registered as a Specialist in Orthodontics with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
